World Environment Day

Tomorrow marks the 37th World Environment Day.  It was first established by the United Nations on June 5, 1972 to commemorate the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.

The day is dedicated to putting a human face on environmental issues, empower people and businesses to become agents of sustainable and equitable development, and advocate for an environmentally safer and prosperous future.

In the last few years, businesses in the United States have recognized the importance of sustainability and environmental protection.  The increased attention to environmental efforts has led many businesses and local governments to adopt environmentally friendly practices.  They’ve also found that these practices are economically valuable as well.

Locally, Pinellas Living Green, www.pinellaslivinggreen.org is a consortium dedicated to this mission.  The group provides educational support, networking opportunities, and business collaboration to the Pinellas County community.

The green movement is economically and environmentally sound.  It's also good business.
